Wang Yunyi is a well-known Chinese jazz singer. Since 2006, she has performed alongside many talented musicians from throughout the world, and acted as a founding member of collectives such as the Hotline 1618 jazz band, Frank Segen quartet, Elva & Trio B, and Elva & Lemon Trio. In 2011 she released the album How Long Has This Been Going on? After participating in the popular singing competition reality show The Voice of China, Wang Yunyi received widespread exposure, at the same time introducing both modern and classic jazz music to many Chinese viewers. Her voice has been described as powerful yet gentle, and she has given unique interpretations of many different singing styles. She is one of the leading jazz artists in China.
At the 2012 Voice of China Music Dream Summit Night event, she was given the “Radiance of Charm” title.
Later that same year she participated in the Style Weekly 3rd Anniversary – Beautiful World 2012 Kunming Fashion Show, hosted in part by Yunnan Newspaper Media and Beijing Lifestyle Media, where she received the Most Stylish Singer of the Year award.
In 2013 she served as jazz ambassador and performed at the “Like Swing” I Love Jazz World Tour Festival.
In 2014 she was invited by the Southern Media Group to serve as promotional ambassador for their micro-film festival, and appeared at their annual awards ceremony.
Upon invitation by the China-Canada International Culture and Arts Exchange Centre, she visited Vancouver on two occasions, performing at the 2014 Vancouver Chinese New Year Gala, and received recognition from the Canadian government.
She participated in the 2014 Parmigiani Shanghai Jazz Music Week, as well as the event press release.
In 2014 she did a talk for TED×SISU called “Fever”.
